Fitness Challenges & New Years Resolutions (#68)
My Love Hate Relationship With Fitness Challenges
Fitness challenges have their ups and downs. Around this time of year I know alot of folks are looking to improve their health, get in better shape, be more toned, etc… and while some of you are tired of all the resolutioners taking up equipment in the gym, realize at some point that was also you.
39% of people set a goal of improving their fitness, 33% want to stick to a diet, and 37% want to lose weight. Only about 9% of resolutioners stick to their plans, which is abyssmal. Over half (52%) rely on an external source to keep them accountable. This is important, that means the other half has ZERO accountability.
There really are only 3 components you need to hit any fitness or body composition goal:
1.) Nutrition
2.) Training
3.) Accountability
If you lack 1, 2, or all 3 of these, your likelihood of success isn’t good.
There are some redeemable qualities of fitness challenges. I think they’re a good way to reset mentally and get in a good short term routine that can set you up for bigger changes in the future that you can sustain. People do work in bursts, you might as well get into a new habit with a burst like a challenge.
What I HATE about many fitness challenges:
Unsustainable diets
They either lack a comprehensive nutrition plan, training program, or both
Too many rules
Dumb & ineffective workouts
Too much cardio
No plan for after the challenge
I’m trialing my own 21 day challenge to hopefully correct some of these issues and I’m in search of some guinea pigs to try it out for free. You’ll get training and activity to do daily via the app I use with clients, you’ll get an easy to follow nutrition strategy you can take and modify for a lifetime, and most importantly daily accountability to make sure you keep the promise to yourself.
January 10th i’m starting up another round of the Fat Loss Fast Track 21 Day Challenge, find the link to sign up below. Yes that is literally this week. I don’t know when it’ll run again, either hop onboard or don’t do it at all, totally fine either way.
